Single camera 3D planar Doppler velocity measurements using imaging fibre bundles

چکیده
Two frequency planar Doppler Velocimetry (2ν-PDV) is a modification of the Planar Doppler Velocimetry (PDV) method that allows velocity measurements to be made, quickly and non intrusively, across a plane defined by a laser light sheet. In 2ν-PDV the flow is illuminated sequentially with two optical frequencies, separated by about 700MHz. A single CCD viewing through an iodine absorption cell is used to capture images under each illumination. The two images are used to find the normalised transmission through the cell, and the velocity information is encoded as a variation in the transmission Use of a single camera ensures registration of the reference and signal images and removes issues associated with the polarization sensitivity of the beam splitter, which are major problems in the conventional approach. A 2ν-PDV system has been constructed using a continuous-wave Argon ion laser combined with multiple imaging fibre bundles, to port multiple views of the measurement plane to a CCD camera, allowing the measurement of three velocity components.

Single camera 3D planar Doppler velocity measurements, using two frequency Planar Doppler Velocimetry (2ν-PDV) and imaging fibre bundles
A modified Planar Doppler Velocimetry (PDV) technique, two frequency PDV (2-PDV), is described that allows measurements of the velocity field over a plane defined by a laser light sheet using sequential illumination of the flow with two closely separated (~1GHz) frequencies of laser light. This allows a common-path imaging head to be used containing a single CCD camera instead of the usual cam...
متن کاملSingle camera three component planar velocity measurements, using two frequency Planar Doppler Velocimetry (2ν-PDV)
The work presented here describes a method that allows three component velocity measurements to be made, quickly and non-intrusively, across a plane in a flow defined by a laser light sheet. The method, two frequency planar Doppler Velocimetry (2ν-PDV) is a modification of the Planar Doppler Velocimetry (PDV) technique, using only a single CCD camera, and sequential illumination of the flow usi...

Single headed 3D Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) geometries generally rely upon the use of 3 Doppler difference channels, inclined at differing angles with respect to the mechanical axes of the probe. The transformation between the non-orthogonal measurement co-ordinate system and the Cartesian system can result in large errors in the calculated velocities. A theoretical analysis of the geometr...

A new method to determine the shape and fall velocity of hydrometeors by using a single CCD camera is proposed in this paper, and a prototype of a video precipitation sensor (VPS) is developed. The instrument consists of an optical unit (collimated light source with multi-mode fibre cluster), an imaging unit (planar array CCD sensor), an acquisition and control unit, and a data processing unit....

The optical fibre laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV) is a technique used for the velocity measurement of fluid flows. The two-dimensional directional LDV using a special technique based on generation of heterodyne signals of differential carrier frequencies has been described in literature [1,2]. The capability of simultaneous measurement of three orthogonal velocity components has also been prese...
